About Luddenden
Luddenden is a village in West Yorkshire, England, close to Halifax. It was made a Conservation Area in 1973, and the Luddenden Conservation Society, a charity, was established in 1975.
The village used to have many shops and a number of churches / chapels and pubs, but now there only remain one pub (the Lord Nelson Inn) and one Church or Chapel (St Mary’s Church) now that the Methodist Chapel has closed (click here to read the Hebden Bridge Times article about the closure) .
The village regularly enters Yorkshire in Bloom, and won the village category in 2010. The Luddenden in Bloom group won a Gold Medal and best Village awards in Britain in Bloom in 2011. There are a number of Bloom-related competitions held during the year, including Christmas Wreath and House Frontage.
Luddenden has its own ”Mayor”, who raises funds for local good causes. The Mayor for 2010/11, invested at the September Mayor Making ceremony is Geoff Dardis, who is also landlord of the Lord Nelson.
The village also has an annual music festival (LuddFest) held in June, bi-annual Open Gardens Day (unsually in June), and a Christmas Tree provided by the Luddenden Conservation Society. The village is one of the sites for the performance of the Pace Egg Play at Easter.
